No such thing as an overbalanced wheel. Any system has a point of maximum and a point of minimum potential energy, and cycling between the two states requires an external energy input, there's simply no way around it. The same goes for magnetic "motors" and any other contraptions the human mind may conceive, which are in fact oscillators that conserve their initial energy until it get eaten away by losses.

I would like to see you pick up the device and put in a new location, like in the garage, and restart it in the same cut--no one ever does that in these videos. And don't complain that it's too delicate, just buy one more piece of wood and make the base more sturdy--duh. It would have been more impressive if he actually talked in the actual video shoot (not sound recorded in a separate shoot) or zoomed out and looked around the area to prove there is no blowers. But the beauty of this model is that ANYONE can try this so us scoffers have no excuse not to try it. If anything it would be a great project to do with your kids! This is not overbalanced!!! Structural statics are usually not taught until late highschool or college which is a bit of a shame--for such a cool subject!!! But anyone can check this with a free online cad program. Draw a long rectangle, rotate 10 copies (or as many as you like) around a centre so you get the general layout of this contraption. Draw a line across each on the 10 rectangles (simulating the water level), and trim the top portion leaving the bottom portion (to simulate the volume of water). Draw a vertical reference line through the center of the hub extending comfortably up and down past the highest points and lowest points. Then measure all the horizontal distances from the reference line to the CENTER OF GRAVITY (geometric centers) of each shape, measurements to the left will be negative and to the right will be positive. Since the volume of water (or cross sectional area of the shapes) are all equal, you would get a ZERO sum if it is balanced or a negative sum (in the orientation presented in the video) if OVERBALANCED. And-oh my word-it always equals ZERO at any frame of rotation, any scale of rectangles, or any shape!!! It only "looks" like there is more water extending on the left side. It more of an optical illusion that has fooled people for centuries.
